Members of the House of Lords are of the opinion that the activities that take place in the metaverse they must be included in any law written in the UK with the aim of regulating certain Internet services.

On July 12, members of the upper house of the British parliament debated the question of whether or not the online safety bill would include “certain harmful content that users may encounter on services, for example in the metaverse.” . The debate took place during a session of the UK Parliament.

Several members of the legislature have conducted research on ways that laws can address the scary things that children can encounter online. Illora Finlay, a lawmaker for Llandaff in Wales, was quoted as sayinggram “if there is a gap between provider-generated content and user-generated content and if provider-generated content could lead to a lot of awful stuff in the metaverse without any way to address it because it’s considered to be out the scope of the bill”.

The fact that the regulation it would apply to anything communicated via an Internet service was the central tenet of the argument put forward by several members of the UK Parliament.

Stephen Parkinson, a user from Whitley Bay, England, suggested that this scope could include not only the text and photos provided by other users, but also anything virtual or avatars they create. He made this suggestion in response to another user’s suggestion that this scope cannot include virtual goods or avatars.

On July 17, members of the House of Lords are expected to resume their debate on the UK’s Online Safety Bill.

A final reading is required in the House of Representatives before the bill can be voted on to become law and before changes to the text can be made.
