Telefónica announced a series of partnerships and innovations as it continues to assert itself as a leader in the metaverse and extended reality.

Chema Alonso, Chief Digital Officer of Telefónica, opened the operator’s conference metaverse day on Thursday, placing the rise of the metaverse in the context of another looming internet revolution. This revolution manifests itself through Web3, an iteration of the web with artificial intelligence services, decentralized token economies, and integrated cybersecurity. alonso framed Web3 Within a “tsunami of technologies” which he believes will enable the metaverse. Telefónica characterized such technologies as a gateway to a cognitive interface, or AI with a human parity.
