In federal court, lawyers defending former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried have asked for more time to prepare and file a proposal on their client’s bail conditions. This request was made in response to the fact that the lawyers need additional time to prepare the proposal. A request similar to this was filed in response to a request made by the court.
Mark Cohen of Cohen & Gressler stated in a February 24 document filed with the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York that the legal team wanted until March 3 to file a proposed terms of additional bail for Bankman-Fried and find a suitable candidate to act as a technical expert on the case. This document was filed with the court by Cohen & Gressler. Additionally, Mark Cohen indicated that the legal team wanted to locate a good candidate to testify in the case before March 3; They declared that they wanted to give each other so much time. During the course of the hearings in the case, the judge was shown the document that was being presented to him. Following a February 16 hearing on the former FTX CEO’s use of a virtual private network, also known as a VPN, the lawyers reached a consensus to retain the services of an expert witness.
It is said in the brief that “the parties have been carefully evaluating the people to serve as technical advisors to the Court; but they have not yet found a qualified candidate.” Analogously to this, the parties have had fruitful discussions regarding additional bail terms for Mr. Bankman-Fried; despite this, they would want more time to finish those talks.
