The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is offering a postgraduate course in metaverse and blockchain-related technology starting in September 2023.

According to the Polytechnic University website, the one-year Metaverse Technology Master of Science program will be run by the engineering college’s computer department and will cost at least $309,000 HKD (about $40,000) to meet the requirements. graduation requirements.

However, the course will only start based on the number of students enrolled.

The university’s website says: “courses offered will depend on the availability of teaching resources and the number of registered students.” It also states that “the program is offered subject to approval.”

The goal of this program, according to the Polytechnic University, is to provide students with “a deep understanding of the nature of metaverses”, an understanding of the fundamentals of technology, “the ability to integrate various technologies into metaverse applications”. and “the view of metaverse development as a multidisciplinary co-evolutionary process”.

Meanwhile, the university’s Master of Science in Blockchain Technology is due for upcoming September intake as well, which the university says is the first of its kind.

The ability of metaverse technology to provide an immersive virtual world where people can interact through digital representations of themselves has gained popularity in recent years.

Along with the metaverse, web3, also popularly known as the next generation of the World Wide Web, has amassed a large following due to the concept of decentralization through the use of blockchain and similar technologies.
