SEOUL, December 29 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s Ministry of Unification said on Wednesday that it has virtually recreated lost villages in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that existed before the 1950-1953 Korean War through a metaverse platform.
Some 400 villages were known to exist in the DMZ, among which the ministry selected the largest for priority investigation.
Officials studied the literature on various regions within the DMZ to locate the villages and learn their distinctive features.
They also interviewed the surviving former residents of the village and made on-site visits to locate missing villages.
A total of 24 interviewees participated in the project, most of them over 90 years of age.
