Speaking in The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the largest in the world Metaverse proponent, Meta’s own Mark Zuckerberg, divulged some details about Facebook’s upcoming AR/VR device.

His next-generation virtual reality gadget will launch in October, Zuckerberg said, and will have better non-verbal communication, such as maintaining proper eye contact between Metaverse avatars.

In the previous version eye contact was just an AI simulation, we didn’t actually know when you were making eye contact because we weren’t following the eyes. Now for this version, and hopefully many different ones we build in the future, you’ll be able to have realistic facial expressions and more beamed directly into your avatar.tweeted the CEO of Meta.

By the above version, Mark Zuckerberg is probably referring to the Meta Quest 2 VR headset that was released in 2020 under the Oculus brand. The parent of Facebook, Meta, also has smart glasses that are made in partnership with Ray-Ban.

However, both of its current AR/VR headsets came before Facebook announced its rebranding and deep dive into the Metaverse, so anything Meta announces in October had better be good. It will face some powerful competition from PlayStation’s upcoming VR2, as well as Apple’s own AR/VR glasses contraption that may launch early next year.
