Meta, led by Mark Zukerberg, has bought Luxexcel, a Netherlands-based developer of 3D smart glasses. This move came after Meta showed interest in doubling down on its metaverse ambition in 2023.
According to The Verge, Luxexcel can incorporate the projectors and holographic elements necessary to create an augmented reality (AR) experience inside a prescription lens.
However, Meta did not disclose how much it paid to purchase the business.
“We are excited that the Luxexcel team has joined Meta, deepening the existing partnership between the two companies,” Meta said in a statement.
