NTT Docomo, Japan’s largest telecommunications operator, has launched a new division that will be dedicated to running its metaverse. The unit, called Qonoq, is already in operation and has a staff of 200 people, researching and developing software and hardware solutions aimed at integrating extended reality products for the Japanese operator’s customers.

Telecommunications companies around the world are interested in the metaverse and the new services that this digital world can bring to their customers. NTT Docomo, Japan’s largest wireless telecommunications operator with more than 80 million customers, launched its own metaverse division earlier this month, the company’s first move into the metaverse market.
