Introduction

In the metaverse, people can interact, work, enjoy leisure activities, and shop with their friends, family, and even strangers through technologies like virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). The rise of the metaverse is expected to change people’s lifestyle to some extent.

The term “design” under Section 121(1) of the Taiwan Patent Law means a creation, i.e., the shape, pattern, color or any combination thereof, of an article in its entirety or partly.

This article explores how metaverse-related design patents can be protected in Taiwan.
