The “metaverse” has quickly made its way into the general vocabulary since last year, with a number of big tech companies eager to claim their place in it. But how should we really define the metaverse, and how can we make sure it’s built in a way that works for everyone? Also, where are its boundaries with reality, and what impact will it have on our more tangible world?

Harry Shum, Founding President of the International Digital Economy Academy (IDEA) and former Executive Vice President of Microsoft, explored these issues and shared his vision for the future of this field as part of a keynote address delivered on September 26 at the Beyond Conference.
