A dramatic increase in the frequency and severity of wildfires is undermining efforts to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the fight against climate change. According to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), 30% of the world’s population is exposed to deadly heat waves for more than 20 days a year.

The World Economic Forum launched the FireAId initiative to tackle the wildfire crisis in January 2022.
