A new education support system that uses the metaverse to help children who refuse to go to school is drawing attention in Japan.

The government is looking into which environments children feel they belong in, amid an increase in students not attending due to various factors, including complex home environments and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The issue is expected to be a key policy area for the government’s new agency for children and family affairs, due to launch in April. It is seen that the government is considering many measures to help children who do not attend, including those who use online spaces.
