The city is gradually moving away from some of the world’s strictest Covid control measures as local authorities lifted mandatory hotel quarantine for incoming travelers starting this week. It is certainly a positive step, but we have not returned to normality. Other social distancing rules remain in place and several major events will be canceled again, including the National Day fireworks on Oct. 1, bringing their suspension to four years since “social unrest” was cited as a reason in 2019.
