Apple plans its long-awaited AR/VR headset to top its lineup of new offerings by 2023, Bloomberg reported over the weekend.
The outlet said the headphones have been in development for seven years and Apple expects to announce them in the spring, with a release date in the fall.
The headset will “probably” be called the Reality Pro, and it will eschew iOS and MacOS in favor of its own xrOS operating system.
A handful of third-party developers are said to be already working with the hardware to line up the first wave of apps.
In addition to headphones, Apple also plans to update its Apple Store app for iPhone with an AR experience in the store. The idea is that customers can point their phone cameras at an item and see more details about prices or specifications on the screen.
Apple signaled its interest in AR and VR through job postings in 2014, and reported product release plans have changed repeatedly over the past six years.
