Unless you’ve been living under a rock these past few months, you know that Apple is gearing up for its long-awaited entry into the virtual/augmented reality (AR/VR) market. Details may be a bit fuzzy at the moment, but it looks like 2023 will be the year the Cupertino company finally releases its first AR/VR headset, supposedly dubbed Reality professional. We now have more evidence that an announcement is on the horizon coming directly from a report presented by DigiTimes, and later covered by MacRumors in a dedicated article. According to the source, known for its credibility, the lens modules for Apple VR/AR headsets will ship in March 2023.
This moment fits very well with the most recent time frame that most analysts and tech experts have predicted when it comes to Apple’s wild card device. While the company seeks to succeed where many other tech giants have failed (including Google), it should be noted that Apple’s headphones have faced multiple delays in recent years.
However, if lens shipments really do start in late February and early March, as the source claims, an announcement before WWDC 2023 (the Worldwide Developers Conference held annually by Apple) is entirely possible. For reference, this latest event traditionally takes place in June and focuses on software and some of Apple’s less mainstream devices.
The release should come soon after the announcement, perhaps sometime in the summer. Given the expectations of a very high price of around $3000 and the limited demand that Apple predicts, availability shouldn’t be as much of an issue as it is with devices like the iPhone.
All in all, it looks like 2023 could finally be the year we see Apple enter this very exciting market.
