As of now, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has made at least two significant donations to help the victims of the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria a week ago.

The earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 occurred on February 6. The current death toll stands at 33,000, making it one of the worst disasters the world has seen in decades.

Over the past week, the Ethereum co-founder has been among the many people who have actively donated Ether (ETH) to fund the rescue efforts in Turkey. According to blockchain security company PeckShield, the most recent contribution from him was made on February 12 and consisted of 50 ETH, which is equivalent to around $77,000. This was given to Anka Relief.

Anka expressed her gratitude to the Ethereum co-founder for his generosity, saying that cryptocurrency contributions have been pouring in since day one.

“Since day one of the crisis, we have seen contributions piling up in the portfolios of just a few of the world’s most prominent NGOs. The group said it was wonderful that they have gotten and will continue to get additional cash.

Anka has provided a list of cryptocurrency wallets that can be used for the purpose of monetary contributions. The Web3 Aid Support Organization is also the driving force behind Ukraine’s DAO initiative, which aims to solicit crypto contributions to fund relief operations in the country now under siege.

The most recent contribution brings to 100 the total amount of ETH contributed by Vitalik to help those affected by the earthquake. Ahbap is a non-governmental, non-profit organization engaged in humanitarian activities in Turkey. On February 11, an address associated with vitalik.eth sent around 150,000 ETH worth of ETH to Ahbap.

Also, various crypto addresses have been provided for different coins that Ahbap can receive as contributions.

He claims to have received crypto contributions totaling $4.3 million so far, with stablecoins being the vast majority of tokens sent. Etherscan reports that the Ahbap wallet holds a total of 409 ETH, which was worth $622,000 at the time this article was written.

On February 10, London’s Financial Times published an article stating that cryptocurrency contributions had arrived from all over the world. Multiple companies have donated over $10 million worth of cryptocurrency, with Binance alone contributing $5 million to relief efforts in Turkey.

Additionally, Binance announced the distribution of $100 worth of BNB (BNB) tokens via airdrops to users in the locations that were most affected last week.

It is not the first time that contributions have been made for assistance in the event of an earthquake using cryptocurrencies. In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal in 2015, many aid groups received contributions in the form of bitcoin.
