Immutable, the web3 gaming company behind Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians, and the gaming-optimized blockchain ImmutableX, announced “Immutable Passport” on January 31.
Passport is intended to be “an all-in-one wallet, player profile, onboarding, and authentication solution” for web3 gaming. Immutable said its customer research confirmed that “ease of onboarding, security, compliance, and plug & play features” were the main focus of web3 game studios.
“Passport offers a non-custodial solution that never holds a user’s private keys or participates in signing transactions…Gamers get access to a secure digital wallet, fraud protection, and seamless authentication in games and web3 marketplaces.”
Unchanging hope that Passport will become synonymous with web3 gaming as Gamertag, Steam ID, PSN ID or Apple ID on web2. The user experience on web3 is notoriously bad, and web3 games are often the exception to the rule. Web2 apps are optimized for a positive user experience, and Immutable “aims to remove Web3 onboarding hurdles” by simplifying account creation and management.
Immutable co-founder Robbie Ferguson said:
“For web3 gaming to reach a billion gamers, embedding needs to be invisible, secure, and work in any game – mobile, console, or desktop. Until now, safety and friction have been trade-offs.”
Guild of Guardians and Gods Unchained will integrate Immutable Passport at launch, according to a statement from Immutable.
