Web3 funded film ‘Calladita’ is now the latest winner of the Andrews/Bernard Award at Sundance 2023. Iconic industry filmmaker Steven Soderberg presented the award to filmmaker Miguel Faus during Sundance, at the Film3 on the Mountain conference. Calladita: Why Web3 is important in movies

Calladita is the first European film fully financed by web3/NFT. The film follows its central character “Ana” through a mixture of realism and satire around the Catalan gentry. The film focuses on class differences and injustice between separate social sectors. So why is this movie important in Web3? Well, Calladita uses NFT as a funding strategy. The film recently received its Completion Funds award from Steven Soderberg and the Decentralized Pictures foundation. The award awards $100,000 in post-production funding for outstanding English-language feature films and shorts.

“This movie started as a crazy idea in my mind that maybe I could finance my first feature through a collection of NFTs, and a few months later, thanks to 500 degens on the internet who believed in us and coined our NFTs, we were able to make the movie,” Faus says. “To now have it awarded by an independent film legend like Steven is a dream come true.”

According to Faus, the “The Film3 revolution is coming”, and from the looks of it, it has already begun. In fact, the Calladita NFTs are almost sold out! To clarify, there are four levels, ranging from 0.16 ETH to 6 ETH. Tiers 2 to 4 have already sold out, leaving only Tier One available (for 0.16 ETH). Each NFT level comes with its own perks and benefits. Users can also support the film by making a donation to their main wallet: calladita.eth. All tiers also qualify holders for additional airdrops and raffles for IRL perks.

DAO

Calladita’s official website also ranks a leaderboard for its patrons. It shows the main collectors and collaborators of the film. Also, there are plans for a DAO Calladita. The project transfers 50% of the profits raised by the film to that DAO. Although the legal resolutions are not yet complete, the existing NFTs will be converted into Calladita DAO governance tokens. These tokens allow their holders to make decisions for the project to move forward.
