•New ITU discussion group seeks interoperability
The United Nations arm in charge of global communications and technology, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), has established a focus group of experts to work on international technical standards for the metaverse.

The focus group offers a place to start laying the foundation for technical standards that can help create an underlying technology and business ecosystem that fosters market entry, innovation, and cost efficiencies in an industry that some industry analysts the industry expect it to grow to a value of almost $800 billion by 2024.

ITU Secretary General Doreen Bogdan-Martin said the metaverse and its layers of technologies can help human development and progress.
