When Facebook became Goal, signaled his intentions to go all out in the metaverse. A lot of big companies followed up and revealed, not at the Meta level, that they would be betting big on Metaverse as well. One of those companies was Microsoft. However, last week Microsoft announced that it plans to eliminate almost 10,000 jobs worldwide. and it seems that it is metaverse plans may have faded into the background.
A big indication of that is a blog post in which the company revealed that it will be shutting down its VR platform for good. Called AltspaceVR, the platform will cease to exist as of March 10, 2023. Furthermore, according to a Windows Central report, Microsoft has also fired the team behind MTRK (Mixed Reality Tool Kit), the platform that was created for the integrations of AR and VR.
