As the world increasingly embraces the development of blockchain technology, a non-profit organization has taken the lead in encouraging young people to develop their skills in this field.
From January 7-11, Web3-focused non-profit organization the Marma J Foundation will host a MARMA J CON conference and hackathon, during which students from Antigua will have the opportunity to create practical solutions to problems using Web3.
According to the co-founder of the Foundation, Chole Lewis, the idea was created to empower the youth of Antigua.
Using the recent development of online entrepreneurship using Facebook, he argued that Facebook retains control over what could be put on its platform which limits entrepreneurship.
“Instead of Facebook owning all the information, it’s the individual or the community that owns all the information… and we’re trying to educate local Antiguan tech students about this,” he said.
Lewis stated that the conference, named after his grandmother, Marma Joseph, will educate young people on the effective use of Web3 technology and harness Web3 technology for social good.
“This conference allows us to bring people together…because we want to educate people on how to use blockchain technology safely; what to stay away from, what to be careful of in this new space,” he said.
According to a press release about the conference, interested individuals will learn about “blockchain applications such as cryptocurrencies, NFTs (non-fungible tokens), and DAOs (decentralized autonomous organizations) and will be able to hear directly and receive mentorship from Web3 industry experts.” . .
Web3 technology, according to online definitions, empowers the decentralization of the Internet built, operated and owned by its users.
