Defunct cryptocurrency lending platform Celsius Network intends to file a motion that, if successful, would buy consumers an extra month to file their claims before the deadline.

Celsius made the announcement that it will try to push the January 3 claim filing date back to early February.

After noticing that Celsius’s legal fees have continued to mount and are eating into the lender’s wealth, the cryptocurrency community has begun to show signs of growing impatience.

According to Celsius, the January 3 deadline will be extended at least until the bankruptcy court hears the application on January 10, which is scheduled for that day.

During bankruptcy proceedings, creditors who believe they are entitled to payment may file claims through a process called the claims process.

As of December 29, Celsius’s creditors had filed more than 17,200 claims.

However, Celsius’s creditors are anxious as a result of Celsius’ continued buildup of administrative expenses since the company first filed for bankruptcy in July.

According to a story published by the Financial Times on December 27, the total amount of money paid in fees to bankers, lawyers and other advisors involved in the bankruptcy proceedings had already exceeded $53 million.

By contrast, Celsius has so far only set aside $44 million in order to pay customers back. This money belongs to clients who have only held funds under the Escrow Program, and is a very small portion of the $4.72 billion in user deposits Celsius now holds.

Some members of the cryptocurrency community are under the impression that the latest delay in proceedings is just another “delay strategy” and are dissatisfied with it as a result. It is your responsibility to negotiate and sanction the fees that have been established by the lawyers and other professionals involved in the case.

In addition, the fee examiner is receiving payment from the Celsius estate; the most recent fee statement was issued on December 21 and requested just under $20,000 for services completed during the month of November.
