A “metaverse gala” event organized by the European Commission in November attracted only a handful of avatars mistaken for balloons.
The gala was part of the €387,000 Metaverse project, funded by the European Commission’s foreign aid department, to engage young people in the EU through the so-called Global Gateway campaign.
But that interest is hard to gauge when few turn out for an online party that Berlin-based tech company Journee, which had been outsourced to design, promised to connect people in a “revolutionary way.”
