The European Commission has rejected claims that only a handful of people attended a virtual party it hosted last month.

Devex correspondent Vince Chadwick in November tweeted that only five people showed up to a party in the metaverse, organized by the foreign aid department of the European Commission in an attempt to get young people excited about the EU. Chadwick said he was ultimately the only party guest left, after “initial bewildered chats with the five or so other humans who showed up.”

The EU executive disputed that claim on Friday, telling Devex that around 300 visitors attended the event, which featured avatars dancing to house music. The Commission said it had confirmed the numbers with Journee, the site’s developers.
