The Linux Foundation “sponsors the work of Linux creator Linus Torvalds and maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman,” according to its Wikipedia page. And now the Linux Foundation “is pleased to announce the launch of the Overture Maps Foundation,” according to its December newsletter.
It is a collaborative effort “to enable current and next-generation map products by creating reliable, easy-to-use, and interoperable open map data as a shared asset that can strengthen map services around the world.”
The initiative was founded by Amazon Web Services (AWS), Meta, Microsoft, and TomTom and is open to all communities with a common interest in creating open map data. To participate, visit overturemaps.org.
