The term metaverse was coined in 1992 by science fiction writer Neal Stephenson in his novel Snow Crash. The most basic definition of it refers to the “concept of a fully immersive virtual world where people come together to socialize, play and work”.

It depicted a virtual reality parallel universe created from computer graphics, which users around the world can access and connect to via glasses and headsets.
