Thirdweb, the innovative technology platform for building NFT and Web3 applications, is launching GamingKit, a kit specifically for Web3 game developers, in partnership with Coinbase.

With over 3.2 billion players worldwide, gaming will become one of the biggest use cases for Web3. By giving players real ownership of their in-game assets, Web3 games allow them to financially benefit from their hours of play.

In 2021, gamers spent more than $54 billion on in-game purchases, with 100 percent of the money going to the developers and studios behind the games due to game assets being kept in a closed ecosystem. Web3 gaming creates a new ownership model whereby players can sell their assets on an open market, ultimately turning players into advocates and fueling the growth of their game.

Web3 promotes the belief that people should have the same ownership rights to digital items that they have to physical items. When an in-game item is represented as NFT, the player has full ownership over that asset: the item can be sold on an open market, the asset can be used or displayed in partner games/franchises, and the item can unlock perks and rewards throughout the Web3 ecosystem.

Having full ownership over your in-game assets introduces a paradigm shift in gaming where the economies of a video game are distributed between the player and the studio. Gamers can now take advantage of the financial advantage of video game success.

Web3 games will achieve widespread adoption when games are released that have the same quality as traditional games. ThirdWeb’s game set will speed up the development of Web3 games by addressing the complexity of the blockchain and allowing game studios to focus on creating a great gaming experience.

Thirdweb collaborated with Coinbase to provide developers with tools that will significantly improve the user experience for players. For example, Coinbase’s payment infrastructure will make it easier for game developers to accept traditional payment methods, such as a credit card, for crypto assets.

Jake Loo, CTO of thirdweb says: “We strongly believe that web3 is the future of gaming. Gamingkit will accelerate the growth of the space by equipping developers with tools to create games that will engage millions in Web3 gaming.

“Partnering with Coinbase means we can release tools that cover the full stack of web3 game development. Gamingkit is designed to produce games that will first and foremost be amazing gaming experiences, without the friction caused by the blockchain infrastructure.”

“Our mission is to break down the barriers to Web3 gaming by creating a development kit that gives developers and gamers the tools to unlock its incredible potential. By partnering with Coinbase, we can create a more seamless user experience so more accessible and inclusive games can be created.”
