German Picus Capital is announcing a new investment unit with a mandate to support crypto and Web3 businesses, and believes it may surprise those who foresee a “crypto crash” with strong scaling practices in the digital asset space.

The curtain is rising on the Web3 and crypto-run division of Picus (nicknamed picus.xyz) with some clients already under its belt, in the form of previous investments from Picus Capital Nefta, which partners with game studios to integrate Web3 features, and D2X, a pan-European digital derivatives exchange.

From day one, Picus Capital is focusing on industry-specific logistical challenges, such as recruiting the right talent, customizing product design, or planning fundraising/marketing in the decentralized ecosystem.

Picus.xyz will also provide investments in the form of equity funds and digital tokens, targeting founders with ideas that can abstract the “complexity of Web3 for consumers and developers.”

There is no news on the funding raised, so it can be safe to assume that Picus.xyz will invest directly from Picus’ balance sheet. In addition to Nefta and D2X, Picus Capital’s portfolio also includes the decentralized token ecosystem platform Web3 Builders, as well as other crypto/Web3 companies Spice, Stride, Arda, CypherD and Arch.

Commenting on the launch, Picus Capital Founding Partner and Managing Director Robin Godenrath said: “At Picus we are increasingly convinced that web3 will enable the next paradigm shift in the way we live, work and interact. picus.xyz represents the culmination of this belief and our desire to associate with the category-offining leaders of the open web era.

“We look forward to supporting the next generation of web3 founders with the full resources of the Picus franchise.”
