Sony Group Corporation (NYSE: SONY) said it has the technology to monetize humanoid robots once it has identified how they could be used effectively.

“In terms of technology, a number of companies in the world, including this one, have enough accumulated technology to do them quickly once it becomes clear what use is promising,” Sony chief technology officer Hiroaki Kitano told Reuters in an interview.

“The key is application development,” Kitano said.

Sony released a robot dog called Aibo more than two years ago. It sold about 150,000 Aibo units from 1999 to 2006 and released an advanced version in 2018, selling about 20,000 units in the first six months.
