As the reports suggested, Microsoft released Windows 11 version 22H2 on the general availability channel on September 20. You can read all about the exciting new stuff in these articles here. A few days before that, some users received feature update 2022 earlier with new devices. The machines shipped with build 22621.521 (KB5017321), which was in fact the 22H2 update, as Microsoft later confirmed.
However, as is often the case, the new update is not without its problems. Last night, we reported an issue related to the update of this new feature update. The update process fails for many with the error code “0x800f0806”. Fortunately, there are a couple of fixes available which we have outlined in this article.
For those who have managed to upgrade, there are other issues for users who have Nvidia graphics cards in their systems. There are reports of unstable frame rates and stutters, and lower-than-typical CPU usage in games. Users of the Reddit and Microsoft forums have echoed similar sentiments. Reddit user ChoPT says that the issues were also present in internal builds. They write:
I was having serious performance issues, both on desktop and especially in games (this also completely broke gsync). It drops to ~30 fps randomly from ~120, in non-graphically intense tests. The screen tears like crazy. I have a VERY powerful system (12700k, 3080 Ti, DDR5 RAM), so it’s not a hardware issue, and I’ve also tried turning off all new graphics settings, so it wasn’t that either.
[..] I’m a big gamer so sadly this is a deal breaker until it can be fixed. But performance issues on desktop also made everything feel a bit slow. These same issues were present in the internal build I tested months ago, and I am very disappointed that they are still present in the release.
He stepped back, and all problems disappeared.
Another user, Nahett77, says that his CPU usage dropped from around 80% to around 5%:
I have been experiencing insane stuttering in games. My CPU usage in games has dropped significantly, in some from 80% to 5%. I just got back to the latest update and my experience in the game is much better.
Fortunately for those experiencing such issues, Nvidia has confirmed that it is looking into the matter. Manuel Guzmán, the company’s software QA, requested further feedback from affected users in the Reddit thread. In case he is reading the article and has similar problems, he can send feedback to Nvidia using this form.

Edit: Updated with quotes from users experiencing the issues for additional context.
To update: Nvidia has confirmed that the issues were caused by Windows 11 22H2. According to the company, the latest feature update to Windows 11 has added new graphics debugging tools that get activated accidentally and cause weird performance issues.
Nvidia’s Manuel Guzmán provided the following statement on the GeForce forum:
Thank you for your comments. Windows 11 22H2 added new graphics debugging tools that are inadvertently triggered causing some users to see slower performance in games. We are working on a solution.
Update 2: The fix is now available in the form of a new GeForce Experience update.
Update 3: Nvidia has now also made the fix available via the latest driver update.
