The metaverse… can you tell me exactly what it is? We are repeatedly told that the metaverse is “the future of the Internet.” Some say that they are hyper-realistic video games; others say that it is a new way of experiencing music and sports; while others say it is the collaborative workplace of the future. But I have yet to hear a really clear definition of the metaverse.
A year ago, Mark Zuckerberg changed Facebook’s name to “Meta,” a nod to focusing on the metaverse. Yet even now, the definition of Zuckerberg’s grand vision hasn’t gotten any sharper. From what I can find, the metaverse still means very different things to different people.
