Automobile manufacturer skoda has launched its first experience in the metaverse, it runs on The Nemesis web3 platform with ready player me avatars. The blockchain enabled Škodaverse aims to provide immersive virtual experiences as well as NFTs for Škoda customers.

Users can create their own 3D full-body avatars, explore electric mobility tools and take part in virtual test drives of the ŠKODA ENYAQ COUPÉ RS iV. Also, art enthusiasts can visit the Škoda NFT gallery to see the “we love cyclingNFT collection that celebrates female cyclists.

A Quick Review of the Metaverse

Compared to other web3 metaverse experiences, this one felt richer with some cool features. But it would help if you had a little patience. For starters, on a laptop, it took a good three minutes to load anything into the browser. And given the lack of a progress indicator, you can assume it’s not working.

What was good about it? In addition to the 3D NFT gallery, you can go to the beach, where there is a swimming pool. And if you accidentally fall into the water, it turns out that your avatar knows how to swim. There is a game room where you can play. And you can even take a test drive in a Skoda. Don’t be disappointed that when you collide with another Skoda it doesn’t seem to dent.

Overall for creativity, at this stage of the metaverse’s evolution, Skodaverse gets high marks. But usability, not so much.

I had heard about the Skoda test drive and wanted to give it a try, but after visiting the beach, I couldn’t find my way back. I ended up recharging and had that extra three minute charge wait. I almost got stuck in the arcade the same way, but eventually figured out that I could jump on the elevator. The game room had a few games, but the games had no instructions. They may be obvious to some, but not to everyone!

So while TheNemesis is perhaps a little buggier than other web3 metaverse experiences, because it’s richer, I was more inclined to give it another go in the future.

Others are taking the step

Škoda is not the only carmaker to bet on the metaverse and NFTs as a marketing strategy in 2022. Skoda is part of the VW group and Volkswagen South Africa launched a NFT ad campaign for the arrival of its new Polo this year. Lamborghini He also released his third NFT project titled “The epic road trip“, a series of digital collectibles that culminated in the presentation of a new Lamborghini model.

Ready Player Me’s cross-play avatars were also chosen in a recent Ozworld footwear collection. project launched by adidas. Ready Player Me allows digital characters to traverse the metaverse through 1,500 apps and games.
