Microsoft’s gaming CEO has poured water on the Meta metaverse project, describing it as “a poorly constructed video game”.

Phil Spencer, speaking on the WSJ Tech Live Conferencehe had a less enthusiastic opinion of the project’s quality compared to modern video games.

He said that “video game creators have an incredible ability to create compelling worlds that we want to spend time in,” referring to game environments such as those in Minecraft. “For me, building a metaverse that looks like a meeting room, I find that’s not where I want to spend most of my time.”

The exec didn’t completely rule out the future of the Metaverse, but he thinks it will look very different from the current Meta offering.
