The American multinational technology giant, Apple Inc, owner of the App Store, one of the largest application hosting platforms in the world, has updated their guidelines to include a host for your hosted applications to integrate non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

While this may be great news considering the exposure the new allocation will give developers and apps to integrate NFT, Apple’s guidelines come with some limitations. The updated guideline says;

“Apps can use in-app purchase to sell and sell services related to non-fungible tokens (NFTs), such as minting, listing, and transferring. Apps may allow users to view their own NFTs, as long as ownership of NFTs does not unlock features or functions within the app. Apps may allow users to browse collections of NFTs owned by others, provided that the apps do not include buttons, external links, or other calls to action that direct customers to purchase mechanisms other than in-app purchase. .

The update can be said to be both positive and negative, as the functionalities are generally limited, which may not bode well for developers to maximize the traffic generated from the app.

NFTs as a branch of blockchain technology are becoming more mainstream and the number of tech giants, particularly those in the social media space, supporting its growth has continued to grow over the past year. While Reddit has thrown out its own collection of NFTs, Twitter began allowing NFT owners to feature NFTs as profile pictures earlier in the year.

While these moves help advertise the potential inherent in the technology, Meta Platforms, Facebook’s parent company, has rolled out support for NFT in some of its apps. included Instagram.

Since most of these apps run on the App Store, Apple’s new allocation will go a long way toward advancing their acceptance, and developers can consider this a win, despite the limitations that apply.
