The other shoe finally fell into the mystery of what the hell the UFC was thinking when they closed the doors to their Apex facility to the media and the public for UFC Fight Night: Dern vs. Yan in early October.
The basic motivations behind the decision became clear on the night of the event itself, when, despite strong denials in the preceding days, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was seen sitting cageside as one of the few very select people who attended. If one of the richest men in the world, in fact, rented out the entire event like it was a laser tag birthday party or if the UFC just decided to give him away with the exclusive occupancy, it was purely pedantic. Whatever the case, the fight promotion owned by Endeavor had been handed over to a high-profile guest.
