On Thursday, decentralized Ethereum scaling platform Polygon announced that it would be joining forces with the Ocean Conservation Exploration and Education Foundation (OCEEF) to promote ocean literacy by finding new ways to expose people to deep-sea missions.

According to Polygon, this partnership aims to deliver interactive experiences through a governance platform where participants can help make key decisions around the RV Odyssey, one of the world’s most advanced ocean research vessels.

Polygon tweeted:

“A new wave in ocean conservation @oceef_, a world class ocean conservation NGO, is working with #Polygon on a next generation ocean conservation initiative…Participants will be able to explore all of the ship’s facilities and data in real time through immersive and interactive experiences in the Metaverse.”

Furthermore, Polygon further stated that this product would be compatible with the purchase of NFTs, and Polygon’s distributed governance platform will help OCEEF increase engagement.

Using Metaverse and other Web3 tools, Polygon is said to help democratize access to VR Odyssey. With this, the participants can decide the future itinerary of the ship, investigate and even participate in the missions on board.

“Using our Polygon partnership and its carbon neutral technology as a launch pad, we will use technology to democratize access to the vessel across multiple Web3 platforms, as well as give participants the ability to help decide the vessel’s future itinerary and research,” said OCEEF founder Alex Moukas on Green Blockchain. Summit 2.0 organized by Polygon.

Additionally, OCEEF will allow participants to assist in decisions, including missions, participation, and locations. Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal spoke on this topic, saying:

“Being able to facilitate a global effort like the one OCEEF is undertaking is humbling. I know that our technology is up to the task of bringing these types of immersive, educational and game-changing experiences to people around the world.” “

In April, Polygon’s core team announced its commitment to become carbon negative by the end of the year, committing $20 million to climate-related projects. Since then, Polygon has achieved carbon neutral status, eliminating 104,794 tons of greenhouse gases, more than the network’s entire CO2 debt since its inception.
