After discussing what the Metaverse is and its potential uses by legal and other service providers, we discuss a number of legal issues that must be considered by attorneys and their clients operating in the Metaverse or contemplating doing so. Topics discussed include the privacy rights of users of the Metaverse platforms, data security, content moderation, preservation of data for litigation, implications of electronic discovery such as what information can be discovered, and access to user communications, and ethical considerations for lawyers.
