National Teacher's Day - September 5, 2022

National Teacher’s Day is observed annually throughout India in September 5 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnanwho served as the first vice president and second president of independent India.

He was born on September 5, 1888 in Tiruttani, Madras Presidency (now Tamil Nadu), British India.

  • September 5, 2022 marks the observance of 50 National Teacher’s Day.

First observance:

teacher’s day was first observed in September 5, 1962Dr. S Radhakrishnan’s 77th birthday, to celebrate his work and drive for education.

About Dr. S. Radhakrishnan:

Yo.Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was an Indian philosopher and politician who served as the first Vice President of India from 1952 to 1962 and later served as the second President of India from 1962 to 1967.

ii.In 1931 he was knighted by King George V for his service to education. He stopped using the title “sir” after the Independence of India.

iii.The Government of India honored him with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, in 1954.

National Teacher Awards 2022:

On the occasion of National Teachers’ Day 2022 (September 5, 2022), Droupadi Murmu, President of India, congratulated the National Teachers Awards (NAT) 2022 Laureates at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Delhi.

  • By 2022, 45 teachers from across India have been selected through a rigorous and transparent three-stage online process.
  • The nationwide function was organized by the Department of School Education and Literacy of the Ministry of Education.

About the National Teachers Award:

Objective: To celebrate and honor the unique contribution of some of India’s greatest teachers.

Each award carries a certificate of merit, a cash award of Rs 50,000 and a silver medal.
